Mepco Peak Hours

Electricity rates are higher during peak hours because demand on the power grid is greatest then. Here are MEPCO’s peak hour windows:

April to October6:30 PM to 10:30 PM
November to March6 PM to 10 PM
Mepco Peak Hours

Reducing your electricity consumption during peak hours helps lower your bill and eases strain on the power grid. When demand is high, the electric distribution firm must produce or buy more electricity to meet it.

If you want to reduce your energy consumption effectively, then you should reduce your electricity usage during MEPCO peak hours.

Taxes in MEPCO Bill

Common taxes and charges appear on your MEPCO bill:

  • FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment): This charge covers the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. When fuel prices rise or fall, the FPA changes. Check your FPA details to understand this monthly adjustment.
  • FC Surcharge (Financing Cost Surcharge): A fixed charge of 43 Paisa per unit that covers debt servicing for Power Holding Private Limited.
  • TR Surcharge (Tariff Rationalization Surcharge): This charge covers differences between NEPRA-approved tariffs and government-set tariffs. When the government sets rates higher than NEPRA rates, they cover the difference as a subsidy. When government rates are lower, MEPCO pays the government.
  • QTR Tariff Adj / DMC (Quarterly Tariff Adjustment / Differential Metering Charges): A quarterly adjustment applied every three months to balance tariff changes.
  • Deferred Amount: Bills or portions of bills you postpone to a later date. You can pay these amounts later in installments or as a full payment without late-payment penalties.

Tips on How to Save Electricity and Lower Your Bill

Simple ways to lower your electricity bill:

  • Turn off lights you’re not using.
  • Switch to fluorescent or LED bulbsโ€”they use less energy than regular incandescent lights.
  • Choose appliances with high energy star ratings; they consume significantly less power.
  • Limit use of high-power devices: air conditioners, electric heaters, water pumps, microwave ovens, and washing machines.
  • Reduce electricity use during peak hours (6 p.m. to 10 p.m.), when rates are highest.
  • Set your air conditioner to 26ยฐCโ€”each degree lower increases energy consumption.
  • For industrial equipment, select low-power tools and machinery.
  • Use quality wiring in good condition to prevent energy loss.
  • Unplug phone chargers when devices are fully charged.

Safety Tips for Consumers From MEPCO

Electricity is essential, but it’s dangerous if handled carelessly. Serious injuries or death can result from unsafe practices. Follow these MEPCO safety guidelines:

  • Downed power lines: If you see a power line on the ground, call the MEPCO helpline at 061-9220198 or 0800-63726 immediately. Do not touch it.
  • Do not hang clothes on power lines.
  • Do not tether animals to power lines.
  • Use quality wiring in good condition for all installations.
  • Use grounded three-pin plugs (or three-pin adapters) for all electrical devices.
  • Report exposed or damaged wiring to MEPCO right away.
  • If someone is in contact with electricity, use a wooden stick to free them if possible. Do not touch them directly.
  • Never touch electrical items or appliances if your hands or clothes are wet.
